Questions

What lawyers and paralegals ask before mailing with us

Do you send Certified Mail?

No. Postmarkr sends USPS First-Class letters only. It doesn't send Certified Mail, doesn't issue a Certificate of Mailing (PS Form 3817), and can't give you a USPS-confirmed mailing date. If a statute, rule, contract or court order calls for one of these, use a post office counter or a Certified Mail provider.

What each USPS option records

What legal documents can I send by mail online with Postmarkr?

Postmarkr's law firm mailing service sends USPS First-Class letters: correspondence to opposing counsel and other firms, client letters such as engagement, status and closing letters, letters of representation, records requests and demand letters. Upload a PDF or start from a saved letter template. Your letterhead and signature print unchanged, behind an address page we add.

Can I serve court papers by mail with Postmarkr?

Not under a court rule's service-by-mail procedure. Those rules usually come with a proof-of-service form that the person who mailed the papers fills in. Illinois's statewide form, for example, asks who mailed it, where and when. Save any PDF available from the status page alongside your approved source document and the status record. Postmarkr's status record does not show who deposited the letter or where.

Certificate of service wording and mail rules

Can you serve a subpoena by mail in Illinois?

Not by First-Class Mail. Illinois Supreme Court Rules 204 (depositions) and 237 (trial) name certified or registered mail, restricted delivery, with the witness fee and mileage enclosed. Postmarkr sends First-Class letters only and can't enclose a check, so it can't serve a subpoena.

What record do I keep after a letter is mailed?

Each letter has a status page in your Postmarkr dashboard with mail-stream status and USPS scan updates when available. We email you when it's sent to print. Save any PDF available from the status page alongside your approved source document and the status record. That record isn't a Certificate of Mailing and doesn't show a USPS-confirmed mailing date. If USPS confirms a letter was lost, we'll resend it for free.

Can a law firm mail the same letter to all its clients?

Yes, with Bulk Send. Save the letter as a letter template and upload a CSV of recipients; each client's name and any other fields the template declares fill in by mail merge. Approve one proof, then pay for the batch. Each batch takes up to 100 recipients and $1,000, so split a longer list into several batches. To send different letters together, add up to 10 to your Cart and check out once.

How Bulk Send works

How much does a letter cost, and when is it mailed?

A one-page black-and-white letter is $2.05 all in: printing, the address page we add, the envelope, USPS First-Class postage and the processing fee. Color is $2.52. You pay per letter by card. Printed the next business day following payment, and USPS estimates 1–5 days for First-Class delivery.

Who can see the letters a law office mails through Postmarkr?

Your documents are processed automatically. We never read or review the content of your mail. Our print partner prints and mails each letter. Postmarkr makes no HIPAA commitments, so don't use it for mail that needs them.
